The Little Prince
The Playground Theatre, London 2017
Director & Performer: Martin Oelbermann, Lighting Designer: Adam Landsberry
A retelling of a classic story by Antoine St Exupery, this version was set within an artists studio brimming with memories of past adventures and projects as yet unfulfilled. The design and dramaturgy animated the original book illustrations to bring the characters to life around the artist-storyteller, and the brand new but unfinished space of the Playground Theatre was treated as a found space, with the young audience inhabiting the studio alongside the artist and contributing to a gallery of drawings as the performances went on. Props were created from paper, with a handmade aesthetic suiting the story and setting.
